Who?
This course is designed for students entering their junior year of high school in Fall 2025 who are taking one or more AP or other advanced classes in English or science. This course is taught by two teachers, one former MMSD AP English teacher and one current MMSD AP science teacher. Learn more about our teachers.
What?
This course consists of three 3-hour morning sessions preparing rising high school juniors for their upcoming AP English/science classes. Rather than studying the content of their upcoming classes, this course will help students develop critical thinking skills to excel in their classes and to understand what their teachers will expect of them. From workshops on reading and writing, to reflective time outdoors, to connecting with their peers, this course seeks not only to improve students’ outcomes in AP classes, but to offer opportunities for personal growth and enrichment away from the screen-focused world of today’s high school.
Together, we will read sections of current books and analyze these using skills from AP exams.
Why?
This course offers growth opportunities for students and a chance to take control of their education. By investing this time over the summer, they will gain more confidence and an increased ability to succeed in challenging classes.
Cost
The cost for this three-session course is $225. Sliding scale and scholarships available.
